Friends and Patriots,
We are putting the Federal Government on notice with the State Sovereignty Resolution. Now, we must put some teeth to our words.

Thanks to Rep. Mike Pitts, we have an excellent collection of (binding) sovereignty legislation introduced as a starting point. If H.4470, H.4501 & H.4502 alone were to pass, the freedom environment in SC, the economic climate, and the entire scope of state-federal relations would change DRAMATICALLY in our favor. ALL of them deserve our most valiant efforts to secure passage:

This is as of Feb 2 at 4:30 pm. We do expect a few more very soon.

Action Items

Monitor the status and progress of these bills (click the links above)

Contact your State Representative and ask him/her to co-sponsor

Contact your State Senator and ask him to introduce or co-sponsor companion legislation in the Senate ASAP

These are important issues and without your active help these bills will not pass. SC patriots helped break the Senate filibuster of the Sovereignty Resolution, and we need to become deeply involved in the process of getting these bills out of committee, to the House floor, and passed. We will then need to turn our attention to getting them through the Senate.

Thanks to Harry Kibler of RINOHunt for this information.

Sovereignty Resolution

Our State Sovereignty Resolution had a rough day in the House of Representatives. The Democrats are attacking it with all the viciousness they have. Here is an excerpt of what was said to one of our members when they called Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter:

“I said that I wanted the sovereignty resolution to go through. She wanted to know on whose behalf I was calling on and I said my own as a constituent. She was laughing and talking to someone in the back ground when she hung up…so I did not hear all that she said but she did not give a *** that I had called.”

It is time that they do give a *** about what we want. Representative Cobb-Hunter should be overrun with calls (her number is 803-734-2809) letting her know that we can financially support anyone who runs against her in the upcoming elections. In fact, I will commit the first $1,000 to a real conservative in her district to support their campaign against her.

Voter Reform Bill H3418

The Voting Reform Bill was brought to the Senate floor today. As expected, there was great opposition from the Democrats. Senator Martin (not sure if Larry or Shane Martin) moved to make the Bill a Special Order. By making the Bill a Special Order the Bill will receive primary importance over other Bills currently in the Senate. I am proud to announce the entire Republican Caucus voted in favor of the Special Order and shut down the obstructionist Democrats. This Bill will be vital to fair elections in 2010. Please contact every Republican in the Senate to express your support of this Bill and let them know you are pleased that they stuck together. From the Senate Home Page you can look up all the Senate Members. Here is a link to the Senate Journal from today’s session.

Here is a message from Sen. Larry Grooms on the Senate debate:

UPDATE: The State Sovereignty resolution passed Tuesday 32-11. The filibuster was dropped without any concessions made or deals struck. This victory does not belong to the SC Republican Party, but rather should be attributed directly to everyone who called, emailed, faxed, and visited our state Senators. Congratulations and keep up the good work!

The SC Senate is debating State Sovereignty Resolution S.424. This would put the federal government on notice by declaring that South Carolina believes the 10th Amendment means something and should be followed. Unfortunately, this non-binding resolution, which merely restates what the Constitution already says, is being filibustered by Senate Democrats and a few Republicans.

There is much riding on this crucial bill (we can forget healthcare nullification legislation and many other things if we can’t even get this through). Tuesday may prove to be the day that the sovereignty resolution either passes or is defeated. Your support is needed.

Contact your senator

If you have not contacted your state senator on this issue, please do so. If they are supporting the resolution, they need encouragement and thanks. Find your senator

Key Senators:

Billy O’Dell (Abbeville)
(803) 212-6040

Hugh Leatherman (Darlington, Florence)
(803) 212-6640

If you know people in these guys’ districts, please urge them to call their state senator. If you are not in Abbeville, Darlington, or Florence and would like to call O’Dell or Leatherman, you can identify yourself as “from SC” and if you have relatives in their district you can say so.

Fax: If you fax the clerk and list the names of the senators who you want to receive the message, you may do so and the clerk is required by law to copy and deliver your message. Call the clerk’s office at 803-734-2010 to get the fax number.

E-Mail is a great way to reinforce your message delivered over the phone. (Note: Fax is better.)

Go to Columbia Tuesday

If you want to carpool, patriots from Oconee, Anderson, Greenville, and Pickens will be gathering:

at 9:00 AM on Tuesday to carpool to Columbia

Meet in the parking lot of Hollywood 20 Movie Theater on Woodruff Rd. in Greenville

We will arrive at the Statehouse in time to visit some of the Senators before they convene in the Senate chamber. Although we are passionate in our support of this Bill, we should not approach the Senators as if they are the enemy. If they believe that they have lost any hope of our future support they will have nothing to lose by voting against the Bill. Our purpose should be to encourage them to support State Sovereignty.

WHAT: Support Sovereignty Resolution S.424
WHEN: Jan 19 2010, 11:00 AM-6:00 PM
WHERE: 1101 Gervais Street, Columbia, SC 29201
CONTACT: Jonathon Hill (864-245-5885)
