Why I wrote the ‘Stupak amendment’ and voted for health-care reform
By Bart Stupak
When I saw that Kathleen Parker’s March 24 op-ed, “Stupak’s original sin,” defined me as a “backstabber,” it reminded me of a Bible verse. Matthew 7:3 asks, “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”
The true motives of many blogs and organizations claiming to be pro-life have become clear in recent days: to politicize life issues as a means to defeat health care reform. One group even sent an e-mail to supporters saying they are “working feverishly to stop this legislation from going forward.” [Read more →]

Resisting ObamaCare, Gandhi Style
By Shikha Dalmia, posted on 03.24.2010 at Forbes.com
President Barack Obama came into office promising hope and change. But he might get more change than he hoped for. By foisting ObamaCare on a deeply unwilling country he might have set the stage for the largest civil disobedience movement since the civil rights era, which, if it plays its cards right, could undo his legislation and his legacy. Why a Constitutional Convention to Nullify Healthcare is a BAD Idea
Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer (who is also running for Governor) is now calling for a Constitutional Convention (“ConCon”) for the purpose of nullifying Obamacare. However, this move demonstrates his ignorance of the US Constitution and you would do well to become educated on the issue, because what he is proposing is quite dangerous. [Read more →]

Dates that Destroyed America
The Anderson Tea Party does not necessarily endorse the views contained in this article. It is posted only as a history lesson and as food for thought. Please draw your own conclusions.

Passage of the so-called “health care reform” bill in the House of Representatives this past Sunday, March 21 (I won’t even address the inferred unconstitutionality of Congress doing business on the Lord’s Day. See Article. I. Section. 7. Paragraph. 2.) drove yet another stake into the heart of America. For all intents and purposes, it is the health of the United States that is in dire need of healing. In fact, the US has been on extended life-support for decades. With its condition being rendered critical, and absent major surgery, its days are numbered. The passage of this bill only serves to further weaken an already frail Constitution. In fact, this one may prove to be the fatal blow. Lady Liberty may never recover.
The decision by Congress to socialize medicine in the US ranks among the most draconian, most egregious, most horrific actions ever taken by the central government in Washington, D.C. This bill rocks the principles of liberty and constitutional government to the core. It changes fundamental foundations; it repudiates historical principle. Oh! The same flag may fly on our flagpoles, the same monuments may grace our landscape, and the same National Anthem may be sung during our public ceremonies, but it is not the same America. The Congress of the United States has now officially turned America into a socialist state.
On March 23, 2010, President Barack Obama signed the health care bill into law, and as such, this date–along with March 21–joins a list of dates that have each inflicted unconstitutional, socialistic, and sometimes even tyrannical action against the States United and have, therefore, contributed to the destruction of a free America. Citizens to rally at Healthcare Nullification Amendment Hearing
March 24, 2010 – Citizens from all parts of the state will be attending a Healthcare Nullification Rally on March 25, 2010, 9:00am at the State Capitol.
The rally’s central focus is a bill brought by Rep. Jeff Duncan proposing a Constitutional Amendment that would prevent the enactment of the Healthcare Reform bill recently passed by Congress.
Rally attendees will be testifying at the bill’s first subcommittee hearing at 9:00, and will also be demonstrating outside the Blatt Building (1105 Pendleton St, Columbia), where the hearing will take place.
“Here in South Carolina we believe that the U.S. Constitution is still the supreme law of the land,” said Jonathon Hill and Randy Simpson, two of the rally organizers and leaders of the Anderson and Seneca Tea Parties. “We’re determined not to allow our Ninth and Tenth Amendment rights to be trampled by the government.” [Read more →]

A Note From Jim DeMint
I want to personally thank you for signing the “Repeal ObamaCare Pledge” at repealitpledge.com and give you a quick update.
First, the bad news.
At 11:56 a.m. this morning, President Obama signed the health care legislation into law, turning one-sixth of our economy over to the federal government.
Congressional Democrats cheered as they watched the President sign this full-blown attack on our freedoms.
It was a painful sight to see.
Now, the good news.
Minutes after the health care takeover was signed into law, I introduced a one-page bill to repeal it. [Read more →]

SC Republicans Want “Obamacare” On Statewide Ballot
By FITSNews
Sensing an electoral gold mine, South Carolina Republicans are looking for ways to put “Obamacare” on the statewide ballot in November.
In fact, legislative sources tell FITS that a ballot question could eventually emerge from a trio of bills already moving through the S.C. General Assembly – specifically three separate pieces of legislation sponsored by Reps. Jeff Duncan and Tim Scott and State Sen. Mick Mulvaney.
“I suspect one of those – likely (Duncan’s) – will be amended to serve as the vehicle,” the source said. [Read more →]

Congressman Spratt defends vote on health care
By Matt Garfield of thestate.com
U.S. Rep. John Spratt joined Democrats in celebrating passage of health care reform Monday – but said he would’ve preferred a different approach to reach this point.
“Frankly, I would’ve done it differently had it been my call,” Spratt told The Herald in his first comments since Sunday night’s vote. “I would’ve done it in steps or stages. By taking on the whole bucketful of issues and problems, it only made it (more) complex.”
Incremental changes would’ve made it easier to win over skeptics, the York Democrat said. “At each stage, you would’ve brought the constituency affected by the changes along with you.” [Read more →]

APNewsBreak: SC Attorney General set to sue on health care deal
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Top prosecutors in South Carolina and Florida said Friday they are ready to sue if health care reform legislation passes this weekend as expected.
South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster said he and Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum will file a federal lawsuit challenging the bill’s constitutionality.
“We are ready to kill it,” McMaster said. “When the national government and Congress start going wild, it’s up the states to rein them in.”
The U.S. House plans to vote on the plan Sunday. McMaster and McCollum will argue that it violates state sovereignty because it requires that all Americans have some form of health insurance. … [Read more →]
