Economics of a Free State

As we work to make SC the “freest state in the nation,” you’ll need to know a few things about free-market economics. Our friend Talbert Black in Columbia is hosting a Campaign for Liberty meeting which will be extremely educational. This is the same day that the 2012 legislative session begins in Columbia, so if you can make the drive, plan to stay for this!

When/Where:

Tuesday, January 10th @ 6:30 p.m.
The Office Place (<-click for directions)
350 Rivermont Drive
Columbia, SC  29210
803-799-3375

Speakers:

  • Dr. Steve Isom – Candidate for Chairman of the Lexington County GOP to replace outgoing Chairman Rich Bolen. Rich is stepping down to challenge an incumbent Republican SC Senator. Dr. Steve Isom is a Cayce City Councilman and a leading grass roots activist for sound money.  Dr. Isom received degrees from Auburn University and Columbia University, NY.
  • Dr. Peter Calcagno – Editor of “Unleashing Capitalism in SC”, Professor of Economics at the College of Charleston.  Dr. Calcagno earned his BS from Hillsdale College and his PhD at Auburn. He is an adjunct scholar at the Ludwig von Mises Institute. His areas of research are public choice economics and political economy
  • Accompanying Dr. Calcagno is Dr. Russ Sobel – associate editor of “Unleashing Capitalism in SC”.  Dr. Russ Sobel is a native of South Carolina and a professor of economics at West Virginia University. For a taste of what you will see at our meeting Tuesday, take a look at a recent presentation by Dr. Sobel at a luncheon with Governor Sanford here at this link. You’ll really like this presenation on the video.
  • Deedee Vaughters – Candidate for SC Senate District 26. Mrs. Vaughters has been a leader in promoting government reform in South Carolina.  As vice chairman of the SC Policy Council, she worked to expose and eliminate crony capitalism; she also has been at the front in the battle to bringing transparency and true accountability to state government. Vaughters is a defender of small business.  As a grass roots activist, she successfully fought for reform of the business license excise tax.

School Choice Literature Drop

South Carolina’s public education system ranks 50th out of 50 states in the US, yet we spend more per child – roughly $13,000 per year – than we ever have before. Meanwhile, parents and teachers alike are trapped by educrats and the economy. It’s time parents were given a choice.

Please join us for two hours on Saturday morning, January 14th starting at 9AM. We will place door hangers designed to raise awareness on School Choice legislation, and maps of where to place them. Making an impact couldn’t be easier, all you have to do is show up!
