Action Alert: Support Sovereignty Resolution

UPDATE: The State Sovereignty resolution passed Tuesday 32-11. The filibuster was dropped without any concessions made or deals struck. This victory does not belong to the SC Republican Party, but rather should be attributed directly to everyone who called, emailed, faxed, and visited our state Senators. Congratulations and keep up the good work!

The SC Senate is debating State Sovereignty Resolution S.424. This would put the federal government on notice by declaring that South Carolina believes the 10th Amendment means something and should be followed. Unfortunately, this non-binding resolution, which merely restates what the Constitution already says, is being filibustered by Senate Democrats and a few Republicans.

There is much riding on this crucial bill (we can forget healthcare nullification legislation and many other things if we can’t even get this through). Tuesday may prove to be the day that the sovereignty resolution either passes or is defeated. Your support is needed.

Contact your senator

If you have not contacted your state senator on this issue, please do so. If they are supporting the resolution, they need encouragement and thanks. Find your senator

If you know people in these guys’ districts, please urge them to call their state senator. If you are not in Abbeville, Darlington, or Florence and would like to call O’Dell or Leatherman, you can identify yourself as “from SC” and if you have relatives in their district you can say so.

Fax: If you fax the clerk and list the names of the senators who you want to receive the message, you may do so and the clerk is required by law to copy and deliver your message. Call the clerk’s office at 803-734-2010 to get the fax number.

E-Mail is a great way to reinforce your message delivered over the phone. (Note: Fax is better.)

If you want to carpool, patriots from Oconee, Anderson, Greenville, and Pickens will be gathering:

• at 9:00 AM on Tuesday to carpool to Columbia
• Meet in the parking lot of Hollywood 20 Movie Theater on Woodruff Rd. in Greenville

We will arrive at the Statehouse in time to visit some of the Senators before they convene in the Senate chamber.  Although we are passionate in our support of this Bill, we should not approach the Senators as if they are the enemy.  If they believe that they have lost any hope of our future support they will have nothing to lose by voting against the Bill.  Our purpose should be to encourage them to support State Sovereignty.
